How to buy Bitcoin Locally (Face-to-Face)?

Localbitcoins makes it easier to buy bitcoin from sellers in your area using a number of payment methods. However, when I meet someone to buy BTC near me (my local area), I prefer to use cold cash. Why? It’s easier, faster and I don’t have to pay for cashier’s check, money orders or wait for my wire transfer to clear up.

Security warning. LocalBitcoins functions like craigslist! You meet up with someone and exchange money for bitcoin. Like craigslist, there could be criminals on LocalBitcoins out to steal your hard earn money. Soooo, be careful when you’re meeting with someone. Meet in public places (i.e: Starbucks, a bar, McDonald’s etc.).

AND…please DO NOT leave until the bitcoin transaction is showing as complete on your Bittrex (or other exchanges) account(s). It can sometimes take more than 35 confirmations for the transaction to clear up. Bittrex will show the process (click on Wallet >> then scroll down).

NOTE: This tutorial is for buying Bitcoin with cash. However, you can use any of the payment methods available on the list from the 3rd box.

Step 1:

Register an account with LocalBitcoins. You get a free and secure online bitcoin wallet. No additional apps are needed. If you already have an account, skip to the next step.

Step 2:

Go to the main page and in the search box fill in the form with the amount you want to buy in your currency, your location and choose a payment method. If you’re unsure how you want to pay, choose “In Person: Cash” as your payment method. The site will list bitcoin traders available in your region.

Step 3:

After you press the ‘Buy’ button you’ll see more information about the advertisement, including the terms of the trade. Read through them before submitting the trade request, if you don’t agree with them you can go back to the previous page and choose another advertisement.  Also, you may find the sellers phone # or email. Contact sellers to setup meeting.

NOTE: Choose seller that’s selling for the cheapest price. Seller may ask for higher than the current trading price…that’s because they’re saving you a lot of headache and fees.

Step 4:

Send a trade request on the message box, contact via phone or email if listed.

If using other payment methods, follow this tutorial.

2018 will be the best year yet for cryptocurrencies and I'm going to help you position yourself now to profit. Hi, My name is Mathieu Louis, I started one of the first bitcoin blogs in 2010 and started investing in the virtual currency when only a few technology savy people knew about it and even knew what it was. I'm one of the individuals responsible for making bitcoin mainstream today. I mad a LOT of money on bitcoin, but I missed a few opportunities was well. I'm not beating myself up though because 2018 is going to be an epic year. Academically, I obtained a Master's Degree in Information Science from Florida State University in 2004. I also have a background in business. I worked for one of the fortune 500 corporations in Washington D.C. for about 4 years, then decided to start my own business. Since 2009 I've been a one-man wrecking crew. I have traveled the world (recently returned from an 18-country backpack excursion. I own many online businesses and I'm a thrill seeker.
